What does all this have to do with chocolate eggs and rabbits?

Cuando no puedes aceptar la posibilidad de lo siniestro en lo que más amas, estás demostrando ser un completo imbécil.

Si observas atentamente la tapa del álbum Rubber Soul de los Beatles encontrarás en el centro la imagen de un rostro entre los arbustos. La foto original, antes de ser distorsionada para el arte de tapa, muestra perfectamente que ese rostro estaba allí en el momento de haber sido  tomada la fotografía.

Éste es el rostro de Alfred Douganberry, o su fantasma, quien murió  en Londres el 12 de enero de 1965. Douganberry fue un músico de Liverpool que compuso canciones como “I Saw Her Standing There”, “Yes, It Is”, “That Boy”, “If I Fell” y otras.  John Lennon y Paul McCartney mantenían encerrado a Alfred en un sótano y a cambio de un plato de leche caliente con pan duro al día lo obligaban a componer temas que ellos firmaban con el nombre de ambos. Estando The Beatles en una gira, olvidaron de dejarle alimento a Douganberry y al regresar lo encontraron muerto en el sótano donde había vivido prisionero durante años.

Un espectro con el rostro del joven muerto comenzó a aparecer en muchas fotos de The Beatles y Paul insistía en que debían encontrar la forma de borrar el alma (Soul) de Alfred con una goma (Rubber) como si ésta fuera un dibujo a lápiz. De allí vino el nombre del disco Rubber Soul. Como respuesta a eso, el espíritu de Alfred Douganberry apareció oculto entre los arbustos durante la sesión de fotos para la portada del disco y así su rostro quedó impreso junto a ellos para siempre como un miembro más de The Beatles.

If you look closely at the cover of the Beatles’ Rubber Soul album you will find in the center the image of a face in the bushes. The original photo, before being distorted for the cover art, perfectly shows the face that  was there at the time the photograph was taken.

This is the face of Alfred Douganberry, or his ghost, who died in London on January 12, 1965. Douganberry was a Liverpool musician who composed songs such as “I Saw Her Standing There”, “Yes, It Is”, “That Boy “,” If I Fell “and others. John Lennon and Paul McCartney kept Alfred locked in a basement and in exchange for a plate of warm milk with hard bread a day they forced him to compose songs that they signed with their names.

While The Beatles were on tour, they forgot to leave Douganberry food and on returning they found him dead in the basement where he had lived as a prisoner for years. A spectrum with the face of the young dead began to appear in many photos of The Beatles and Paul insisted that they should find a way to erase the soul (Soul) of Alfred with a rubber (Rubber) as if it were a pencil drawing. That’s where the name Rubber Soul came from.

In response to that, the spirit of Alfred Douganberry appeared hidden in the bushes during the photo shoot for the cover of the album and his face was printed with them forever as a member of The Beatles.
